Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the brace not stick or stay on the nail?

Improper nail prep is often the cause of the BS brace not sticking or coming loose within a few days. Make sure your client does not soak or apply lotion before their application visit. Do not do the brace service in conjunction with a pedicure or use of any products. Make sure the nail is properly etched and cleaned with the Clean-Ex product, and then wipe the nail dry. Once the applicator has been applied do not proceed to the application of the brace until the nail has turned opaque or chalky. If the nail does not turn chalky, re-prep the nail. Another reason the brace may not stick is the adhesive has become deactivated either through contact with the activator, not sealing the lid properly between uses or keeping it in a warm place. The adhesive should be kept in the fridge or freezer between uses and warmed up to room temperature before use. Finally, the nail may have too extreme of a curvature and the brace needs to be applied closer to the base of the nail.

How long does the adhesive keep?

The adhesive is good for at least nine months.  Keep the adhesive in the freezer between uses and warm up to room temperature.  Shake well before using.

Where can I find the expiration date?

The expiration date for the adhesive is found as a four-digit batch number on the label.  For example, 0916 means expiration is September 2016.  If the adhesive is kept in the freezer between uses, it will be effective beyond the expiration date.

Why doesn’t my adhesive work?

The brush of the adhesive must not come in contact with the activator, if it does, the adhesive becomes inactive, gets stringy and the bottle will dry up.  It is important to make sure the activator is applied to the nail and the adhesive to the brace.  Make sure the activator is dry before applying the brace to the nail and always wipe the nail with the Clean-Ex before applying adhesive to seal the nail.

When is it best to apply the B/S Brace?

The brace is best applied 3 to 7 days after the pedicure service.  No foot baths or lotions should be used before the bracing service as this may impede adhesion to the nail.  Do not use any softeners or cuticle removers before applying the brace.

Can I do a pedicure after applying the B/S Brace?

Yes, a pedicure can be done after applying and sealing the brace to the toe nail.

Can I apply polish over the brace?

Yes, polish can be applied over the brace.  Do not use acetone or acetone base polish removers to remove polish from braced toe nails.

How long does the brace last?

The brace when applied and sealed according to directions should last one to three months.  If the brace becomes lose or comes off within the first week, application may have been incorrect.  You should check the fitting of the brace once a month.

For how long is the tension on the brace effective?

The tension lasts for four to ten weeks depending on the curve of the nail and the fit of the brace.  For extreme curvature, the brace should be reapplied every four to six weeks.

What should I do if the client feels discomfort after the brace has been applied?

If your client feels more than a slight pull, you can reduce the tension by gently filing down the edges of the brace.  If it feels very tight, gently reduce the surface of the brace.  Do not reduce too much as a slight tension is required to correct the curve.

What if the brace breaks?

If the brace breaks usually it means the nail is too curved or is a roof nail.  Apply the brace just below the extreme curve.

Can the brace be applied to other toenails or only the big toenail?

Yes you can apply the brace to the other toenails; however, the brace must be reduced from each end evenly to keep the proper tension.  The brace must be applied to the centre of the nail first, then to each side.

Can I apply two braces on the same nail?

Yes you can apply one brace behind the other; however, it is recommended to use the new Classic+ wider brace instead of two.  Or if the first brace is growing out, you can apply a second brace behind the first after four to six weeks.

How do I remove the B/S Brace?

The brace can be removed either by gently grinding off, or using the pointed nail nipper to break the seal and gently pull the brace off the nail.
