I have always wanted to start a blog about the “business of feet”. The new blog on our North American School of Podology website has given me the opportunity not only to blog, but to create an interactive space for others interested in feet, education, the beauty industry and business. The topic of feet is very intricate, with many exciting avenues to delve into. From skin and nail disorders, to products, to business aspects, how we walk, and even shoes; the list is endless. This page will be used as a medium to share topics of interest in the foot care industry and post interesting articles, as well as host guest articles from other industry experts. Is there something in particular that you would like to see in our blog? Let us know!
Someone once told me that the feet are the third most disliked and neglected part of the human body. I found this tidbit of information somewhat demeaning to our poor feet, as we rely on our feet for mobility. When our feet hurt, we hurt all over, so why is it that we have the tendency to take our feet for granted? What is it about feet that make us dislike and neglect them to the point we attempt drastic measures to make them pretty, or ignore and hide them away? Perhaps our vanity takes over, especially for women, pushing feet into very high heels, or too narrow of a shoe. We also have a tendency to swing the other way and simply wear something like flip flops, that give us no support. Or does our lifestyle dictate what we do to our feet through our work, and what causes discomfort and is necessary for protection? We may dislike them because they might smell, or have rough, callused heels, or thick, ugly toenails. There are solutions to these issues!
Personally, I think it is time that we changed our attitude about our feet. I am thinking along the lines of Dove’s campaign adds about changing how females view their bodies. (Have you seen their Real Beauty Sketches? Women draw how they think they look, versus how others see them! It’s a great watch- check it out here! Feet should not be disliked, neglected or hidden away, but instead cared for. As footcare specialists, it is up to us to help our clients and customers change the way they feel about their feet, give them solutions, and educate them on the importance of proper footcare and footwear. We are huge advocates of this at NASP, and we include this recognition and these recommendations an integral part of our education curriculum.
We hope that you enjoy our new blog, as well as the changes to our new website! We are thrilled to introduce our CMP Finder, as we get several requests from the general public who know the value of a safe pedicure, and are looking for technicians with advanced foot care knowledge. This will make it easy for them to connect with you! If you are not currently listed and would like to be, please let us know at nasp@kvggroup.com. We have also added some more details to our page about our St. Kitts residency- we had an absolutely unforgettable time this past January, and are already looking forward to our next opportunity, in January 2016. We are currently hard at work on our “Brands” page, where you will the latest information and products from BS Brace, PACT, and other products that we carry! And of course, keep an eye open for our new class locations- we’re looking forward to classes in Vernon, Denver, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Toronto, Orlando, Chicago, and more this fall!
Thank you for your continued support of NASP, and being part of the journey with us. It’s been a big year, and we can’t wait to see what the fall season has in store for us!
What would you love to see on the NASP blog next month? Please let us know in the comments.
